About Us
A Heartfelt Backgound
I taught Kindergarten children for 13 years and loved the creativity involved with reaching these young minds. After the birth of my son, I became a stay at home mom but could not leave behind the creativity of "making". I did many kinds of crafts with him from painting and clay to drawing and sewing. After the birth of my second child, life became a bit busy but we always found the time to create. Now that the boys are older and more independent, I found it time to have my creativitygrow too.
In the Spring of 2005 my dearest friend Cheryl Allen, of Clay Accents Pottery, and I decided to teach ourselves to quilt. I quickly became addicted to fabric and the satisfying feeling of piecing together tiny pieces of color to create a new image. Shortly after I discovered the wonderful medium of hand dyed wools and have not looked back since. Working with wool allows for a wide variety of colors and textures which sparks my creativity even more...
How the Business Started
The business Heartfelt Designs began in the fall of 2005. I did about 20 craft shows a year as a way to sell the wool applique items I loved creating. I also have items for sale in a few local stores. But I soon discovered that almost every time I purchased a pattern to create I found myself adapting it in some way. I needed to put my own spin on the design. So to add one more wonderful “stress” to my life I began creating patterns. All my patterns are original designs or adaptations to quilting blocks.
Heartfelt Designs studio is in my home. From the studio window I have all the woolly inspiration I need from our three pet sheep: gentle Puff, Ivan the Terrible (and he is!), and sweet natured Toby. While I do not use the wool for the fabric I sew with I do use is in my needle felting. They are old world merino sheep and the fiber is wonderful! These guys are so much fun to watch that very often my designs contain a sheep as a thank you for their designing inspiration.
Inside my home, it’s as crazy as any home with a husband, 2 kids, 3 dogs, and a variety of ever changing small pets. They are all very supportive and offer critiques on new pattern designs or color combinations. They give me the happiness I need to be creative.
I hope you enjoy looking around the website. Be sure to stop by and say hello if you find yourself at one of my shows. Meeting new friends is just one of the perks I enjoy about my business adventure. Call or email me anytime for more information or special requests. Customer comments and suggestions are always welcome.
